About Us

At South Shields Golf Club, Our natural setting established in 1893 was further enhanced in 1912 by Dr. Alistair Mackenzie to yield a challenge for all that has become a favourite for winter golf due to easy draining structure.
Starting unusually with a well protected par 3 first hole, golfers will remember the challenging dog-leg 11th and outstanding panoramic views. The Course is host to many county events, which is a recognition of its acknowledged quality.
The course sits on Cleadon Hills, which due to its rare Magnesian Limestone drains well all year round and is home to rare plants and grasses as one of only a few Magnesian Limestone locations, the Durham location is world renowned for being the largest , with the Cliff Top area from South Shields & Whitburn protected by the National Trust
