Competition Rules & Conditions of play

The Club runs BRS/GolfNow as the preferred tee time booking software.

The executive committee have been given the authority to manage the playing golf of via the clubs Bye-Laws for  Timings, restrictions to play and any amendments that may need to be made

Tee Timings and Group sizes will be determined dependent on the season and hours of daylight and maybe varied without notice

Current timings and play conditions are as follows

Midweek – Four-ball play at 7 minute intervals, tee of the day YELLOW

Weekend – Four-ball play at 8 minute intervals, tee of the day WHITE for all Competitive and Casual Golf

Exceptions –

Monthly Midweek Medal – to be played of Whites

Knockouts – to be played of Whites

Entrance Fees

Shall be £2.50 per player unless otherwise authorised by the Committee.

2’s Sweep
This is run by and is the sole responsibility of the Professional.

Knockout Competitions
Both players and both pairs are equally responsible for arranging the match. Closing dates will be strictly adhered to and if no result is forthcoming, both players or both pairs will be scratched. The final decision on any dispute will be decided by the Competitions Committee.

Ties
In the event of a tie in a major competition i.e. one for which a trophy is awarded, then there will be a play-off over the same number of holes at handicaps prevailing on the day of the original competition. All other places will be decided on the best nett scores for the last 9 holes. If a tie still occurs then the countback is taken over the last 6 holes, then the last 3 holes and then the last hole until a result is established.

Competition Format
Major individual competitions shall be played 4 balls at starting intervals of 8 minutes intervals on a Weekend and in 7 minute intervals midweek, , unless otherwise indicated on the entry sheet. Play in 2 and 3 balls is allowed if no 4th competitor is available. All single major competitions are qualifiers for handicap purpose.

Mixed Foursomes
Couples have the choice of who drives at the 1st and alternatively thereafter. Allowance ½ combined handicaps.

Entry into Competitions
BRS online booking is used to book tee times from 8.30pm FIVE days prior. Exceptions will be the Club Championship when a draw will made and tee times will be allocated and any Club Shotgun Texas Scrambles.  On a weekend dedicated competition times are listed on BRS for entry into the competition only

Competition Times
Will be as stipulated on the BRS start sheet and via the Master Scoreboard, competitors may enter and play outside these times, whilst the Professional Shop remains open. The Competition Committee decision on playing times is final

Competitors must announce themselves to the Professional Shop, who will take the appropriate entry fee and the competitor will log them selves into the competition via the PC

Failure to wear a face mask in the shop or foyer of clubhouse will result in competition and booking rights being removed ( 01/10/20 covid19)

Having entered his name onto BRS, and on the day of the competition when play has commenced, a player may not alter the time at which he plays. The club reserves the right to ‘smooth’ tee times and amend playing times and partners due to unforeseen circumstances

Anyone who, having entered a competition, fails to turn up for their tee time, will be suspended from the next 3 weekend competitions UNLESS – they have either: informed their playing partners, the Professional or the Committee prior to play.

Handicap Limits – Please refer to WHS allowance sheet to find out reductions on allowance based on competition format

Maximum handicap allowance for Club Competitions is 54

Maximum handicap allowance for all major board competitions is 28* unless individually stipulated .

In mixed competitions, Ladies maximum allowance is 36 and men 28. Players must have a competition handicap to be eligible for prizes. *Note – members of a higher handicap than the maximum permitted may play, but must play of the maximum handicap only

Winners and Prizes
Players can only win one prize, and will be allocated out by highest value first.

Best Gross – All singles Club medal competitions have a best gross voucher for £20,

Overall winner – Prizes will be paid out for 1st, 2nd 3rd if the size of field allows then additional prizes for 4th and 5th will be allocated

Divisional winners  Will be limited to 1st place only

Prize allocation and numbers will be dependent on the the number of entrants and monies received. The Club Share will be either 40% or 50% as decided by the Treasurer with with the remainder provided to the Professional for allocation of prizes

The club will determine the % share of each prize pot, the base allocation will be

Overall pot –  85% – 1st 35%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 20%, 4th 12.5%, 5th 7.5%

Divisional pot 15 % – shared across the three divisional winners

No overall winner will receives less than the amount the divisional prize would have been and the pots will be reallocated to accommodate this decision.

In each Monthly medal £30 is taken out towards the prize vouchers for the WC Mason final.

The Mason Medal Qualifiers – will consist of two division

Gazette Qualifier – No prizes are allocated as entry fees go towards the knock stage winners

Disputes
In all cases the Rules of golf apply and the decision of the Committee shall be final.

Postponement/Cancellation
The Committee reserve the right to postpone or cancel any competition.

Juniors
Juniors may play in and compete for all club competitions, but will do so from the competition tee of the day.

Competition score cards
All competition cards must have the correct handicap; the gross score for each hole, and be signed by the competitor and the marker. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.

ALL cards must be returned in competitions including No Returns and entered into the computer or in the event the computer is not in operation, deposited in the scorecard box.

NOTE: Each competitor is responsible for his own card.

Any player who fails to return his scorecard in a competition and or fails to enter the score in the computer will be suspended from the next singles competition.

Scores on scorecards must be legible and any cards that are re-written must have the original attached. Any amended scores must be initialled by the marker.

Away competitions
Any player in a single qualifying competition away from South Shields Golf Club is responsible for notifying the handicap committee by email to the office ssgcsecy@gmail.com of any score that may affect their handicap. Failure to do so could lead to a suspension of his handicap.

Handicap Allowances
Match play

  • Singles- Full difference between the handicap of the players
  • Foursomes – ½ difference between aggregate handicaps of each side
  • Four Ball better ball – Lowest handicap to concede strokes to the other 3 plays based on 90% of the difference between full handicaps

Stroke Play

  • Singles – Full handicap.
  • Foursomes – ½ aggregate handicap of partners.
  • Four ball better ball – Each partner receives 90% of full handicaps

Par/Bogey

  • Singles – Full handicap.
  • Foursomes – ½ aggregate handicap of partners.
  • Four ball better ball – Each partner receives 90% of full handicaps

Stableford

  • Singles – Full handicap.
  • Foursomes – ½ aggregate handicap of partners.
  • Four ball better ball – Each partner receives 90% of full handicaps

Greensomes

  • Lower handicap x 0.6 plus higher handicap x 0.4. If the handicaps of the partners are equal, the Greensome handicap is half the combined handicaps

NOTE: Half stokes or over to be counted as one; smaller fractions to be disregarded except in foursomes stroke play when ½ strokes are counted as such.

Members who have their playing rites suspended due to delays or non payment of subscriptions will have the BRS booking facility and competition entry removed
